In Dominican Republic there are around 40
0 circles that traffic children all around the world. These circles are said to be from Spain, the Netherland, US and Argentina. Due to this fact child
prostitution in Dominican Republic is increasing massively. Further reasons are also scarce working possibilities, low education, and because poorer locals are trying to find an escape from poverty. Since Dominican Republic is currently one of the Caribbean’s largest tourist attractions, most locals take advantage of the touristic areas and try to sell themselves to foreigners. However, why are children involved? One of the new inhumane trends in pedophilia (where as most people used to pay to have sexual intercourse with a grown woman or man selling himself) people are now paying higher prices to do the same with children who are under age. Child prostitution is not a voluntary act, many if not most of these children are kidnapped and soled then treated as slaves, sex slaves. This trend is becoming a great tourist attraction and thus the children can be found on the outskirt of the capital city such as Boca
Chica or near the most famous beach of Puerto Plata
, located 180 km northwest of the island. On the map it can also be seen that both areas are close to airports, which makes it easier for the traffic to occur. Most of these children are taken away from school by prostitutes, or ex prostitutes and promised a better life and better living conditions until they, the people forcing the children into prostitution, get their full confidence. Once achieved, the children are taken away from their homes to bourdels, bars or special houses to begin their training. However, before
they are sold to foreigners, they are beaten, tortured and drugged in order to be fully prepared to be the customer’s sex slave on whom he can do anything. The drugs used for the children rage from Cocaine or Heroin. The children are given regular doses in order to become dependent. This is done to prevent them from running away, for with their dependence, they always come back no matter how badly they are treated. Also it allows the children to be numb to the pain and feelings while the customer takes advantage of the child.
Some children were interviewed anonymously and these are some of their phrases:
“I didn’t look, I didn’t know there was so much child prostitution, girls and boys have to learn the business quick, what I didn’t think is it’s demand/I never realized; now I started looking…. They are so small / My first time… I was 11 years old / I started to work when I was 15 / there are many prostitutes… they are 13, 14… / upstairs there are room and many beds / no one judges, and a Judge won’t come to ask you how old you are… he comes… for the service…”
Although some of the children manage to escape, they have no place to turn to. Many of those taken away from their home are kicked out upon their return by their parents, as for those soled by their parents, they have no place to turn to and end up on the streets. As for the unfortunate ones who do not manage to escape, they are either sold to foreigners or killed when they are of no more use. Moreover, who are the foreigners or pedophiles that go to Dominican Republic to use and abuse these children? It is said that 25% of the users are from the US and the others percentages are either locals, European, Africans or Asians. Although there is a law against pedophilia, corruption in Dominican Republic plays a big role in society.
